Italian Home and Kitchen (425-486-8676) showcases a wide range of Italian ceramics in its Bellevue store (Seattle area). All the pieces are handpainted and come from various regions in Italy. Our Tuscan Ceramics are handcrafted by the Ammannati family in Montelupo, a village near Florence. We also carry very artistic and elegant ceramic object from the Castelli tradition. Castelli is located in Abruzzo, a region that sits directly east of Rome. This style of décor is inspired by the unique tile ceiling of the San Donato chapel, built in the early 1600’s. The huge collection of imagery includes portraits, animal imagery, cityscapes, decorative elements and religious themes. Our classical Faenza patterns, such as the “Garofano” and “Melograno”, are the work of Liliana Ricciardelli, a very skilled artisan who is continuing a majolica tradition that started in Faenza centuries ago. We also offer the unique and whimsical work of Romano Innocenti, with its bright sunny colors and happy themes such as fish, birds, and flowers.
Overall you’ll find hundreds of different items from hanging plates to soup bowls, from spoon-rests to kitchen tiles, from biscotti jars to limoncello bottles.
We are all about quality and color. All of our ceramics are made by the most reputable and best artist in their field. Beginning with the high quality of the raw materials which one can feel in the weight and shape of the objects, in the sharpness of the colors and in the depth of the images, we bring the best of the Italian majolica. The high standard, we require, extends to the smallest detail of each and every object within the so very different styles that are intrinsically tied to the enormous historical heritage that Italy has to offer. Our patterns span from the fruits and floral styles with the bold colorings of Tuscany to more subtle landscapes and historical iconography of the Castelli patterns, to the classical symmetrical and so very detailed patterns of the classical Faenza Majolica.
